The Newt
The Newt is a working estate in Bruton, Somerset with acres of gardens, woodland, farmland and cyder orchards to explore. It’s also home to a luxury hotel.
We were tasked with forging over 350 individual pieces of ironmongery – from bronze door knockers to strap hinges – with the client providing historical images of Roman ironwork as a startpoint. From these images we were able to produce samples of the individual pieces for the client to see and touch.
All the ironwork was joined using traditional methods such as forge welding and riveting. More elaborate items, such as the door knockers and bosses, were sand cast in bronze in-house – a process which required the use of 3D printing to make a pattern to cast from.
